About Old Kempton Distillery

The Old Kempton Distillery is an Artisan Whisky, Gin and Liqueur Distillery located in Dysart House, Kempton, Tasmania. Established in 2012, the distillery has continually crafted beautiful Tasmanian Whisky, Gin and Liqueurs from local ingredients with traditional techniques.

Old Kempton Distillery is located in Dysart House, 26 Main Street Kempton, an 1840’s colonial inn. It is an easy 40 minute drive from Hobart and approximately 2 hours from Launceston. Open 7 days a week, 10am – 4pm.

Come by the Cellar Door & Cafe

The cellar door and cafe boasts two charming restored dining rooms, and a beautiful courtyard, where you can sit and enjoy some home-cooked treats from our cafe menu. Our Cask Lounge is full of comfy chairs, our stunning cask and botanic wall - made for relaxing with a dram in hand.

The cellar door offers a wide variety of Old Kempton Distillery products tastings – take your pick from Single Malt Whisky, Tasmanian Liqueurs and our range of Gins. Enjoy a personalised tasting flight or a nip of Single Malt.

Discover our Distillery School

Our Distillery Course is a unique opportunity to have a hands-on learning experience in an actual artisan distillery. It is designed to provide full training whether you are a beginner, want some hands-on experience or need to learn how to navigate the ATO, marketing and business processes of a distillery.

Our Distillery School runs with a minimum of 2 and a maximum of 10 people. This keeps the school as intimate as possible and also provides plenty of time for questions and discussions of what you individually would like to gain from our School.

Our School will provide you with a close look into the workings of a Distillery, including the coopering of casks, brewing of wash, distilling processes, barrel management, decanting and bottling. Although Old Kempton Distillery is primary a Whisky Distillery, we also make Gin’s and Liqueur’s onsite – this means no matter what you are interested in distilling, we have the knowledge you need to begin your own distillery.

Join the Old Kempton Whiskey Club

By joining our club you have access by ballot 4 times a year (August, November, February and May) to a special release. These releases are matured, especially for the club and bottled – numbers 1 to 100 - just for our members. By joining Old Kempton Whisky Club you will also receive a complimentary Old Kempton Whisky Club Keyring (which will be sent out with your first purchase) – this allows you free coffee whenever you visit The Old Kempton Distillery, free postage on anything you purchase from The Old Kempton Distillery, a free tour and tasting whenever you bring along a paying customer to our Cellar Door and of course, access to our Exclusive Releases.
