From humble beginnings as a wholesale warehouse to the 3 stores that it is today, this family owned and operated business has been trading for over 40 years.
Established in Launceston, Tasmania in 1976, the business was owned and operated by Jennifer and Roderick Beaumont (Jen-erick). After many years wholesaling to local businesses and retailers the pair decided to open to the public with additional stores in Hobart and on the north west coast of Tasmania, whilst maintaining the Launceston store as its base.
After 30 years of trading, their son Charles took over the business. In an attempt to impart his own spin on the business and take it in a new direction, Charles renamed the stores ‘The Importer’ and opened two new shops in Cooee and Kingston.
Today ‘The Importer’ employs 25 local staff across three stores in Launceston, Hobart and Cooee. Importing direct from the factories in Indonesia, Vietnam and China, enables the buying team to source modern furniture and stylish home wares at prices any homemaker can afford.
